A person showed up wounded at Memorial Hermann Pearland Hospital Saturday afternoon after being shot in southwest Houston, according to investigators, and police say someone has already been detained in connection with the shooting. The victim did not arrive by ambulance, and police say the person is expected to survive.
Houston police were called to the hospital after the gunshot victim arrived there on their own, according to ABC13 Houston. Investigators have identified the actual shooting scene as being located on Monarch Road near Almeda Genoa Road in southwest Houston. That stretch is in HPD's Southwest Patrol Division; the Southeast division covers roughly 50.5 square miles and more than 176,000 residents, according to the City of Houston.
Memorial Hermann Pearland Hospital was the treatment site, while the shooting scene was on Monarch Road near Almeda Genoa Road.
Why Police Showed Up at the ER
The reason HPD ended up responding to a hospital instead of only the shooting scene traces back to state law. Under Texas Health and Safety Code Section 161.041, healthcare providers and hospital administrators are legally required to immediately report any gunshot wound they treat to local law enforcement in the municipality or county where the facility sits, according to FindLaw. That statute is what ensures police get notified no matter where a shooting victim ultimately seeks treatment.
The hospital itself is built for exactly this kind of trauma call. Memorial Hermann Pearland Hospital runs a 24-hour emergency room with 18 beds set up for trauma stabilization, advanced imaging, and Life Flight air transfer to regional trauma centers, per Memorial Hermann. The 64-bed acute care facility opened in 2016 to serve Pearland and the broader South Houston region, according to the American Hospital Directory.
A Corridor With a History of Gunfire
This is not the first violent incident HPD has investigated in the Monarch Road and Almeda Genoa Road corridor. In July 2025, an HPD sergeant with the Southeast Patrol Division was shot and wounded during a shootout near Mykawa Road and Almeda Genoa Road, leading to aggravated assault charges against a 36-year-old suspect, according to the Houston Chronicle. The wounded sergeant was treated at a local hospital and released, while the suspect was hospitalized before his court proceedings began.
Possible Charges
No charges have yet been confirmed in Saturday's shooting, and it remains unclear what interaction or motive preceded the gunfire.
HPD's investigation remains ongoing, and police have not released additional details about the identities of the victim or the detained person. This is a developing story.
