Honolulu is lined up for a mostly sunny Sunday with a high near 86 degrees, but the trade winds will make sure the day does not feel completely sleepy. East-northeast winds of 16 to 21 mph could gust as high as 29 mph, while isolated showers make brief appearances.
Rain will favor windward and mauka areas, though a few showers could spill into leeward neighborhoods, especially overnight and early Monday. The chance of rain is about 20%, with most new rainfall expected to stay below a tenth of an inch, according to the National Weather Service in Honolulu.
Afternoon Winds Pick Up
Sunday night will stay partly cloudy with a low around 76 degrees, and isolated showers are possible before midnight. Monday looks sunnier, with another high near 86 and east-northeast winds of 15 to 22 mph, including gusts up to 31 mph.
The strongest stretch arrives Tuesday, when winds could run around 23 mph with gusts reaching 32 mph. A Small Craft Advisory remains in effect through 6 a.m. Monday for many local waters, including Oahu’s windward and leeward waters and the Kaiwi Channel, so exposed shorelines and boat trips may feel notably rougher.
Trade Winds Ease Later This Week
Wednesday should remain mostly sunny with a high near 85, while Thursday brings mostly sunny skies followed by a few isolated afternoon showers. Friday stays warm near 86 degrees but turns mostly cloudy, with winds easing to around 8 mph.
The broader pattern is expected to become less windy during the second half of the week, although shower timing becomes less certain. Saturday could start with a few isolated showers before returning to mostly sunny conditions.
Dry, Gusty Conditions Raise Fire Concerns
Forecasters say select leeward areas could see near-critical fire weather conditions over the next couple of days as winds strengthen and humidity dips. Residents should secure loose outdoor items and use extra care with grills, outdoor flames and anything that could spark in dry, gusty conditions.
