A 39-year-old Hamburg man has been sentenced to a year and a half in jail after admitting he tried to rape a 15-year-old he knew. Naphtali Masse pleaded guilty in June to one count of attempted rape in the second degree, a charge connected to an incident police say happened on Dec. 30, 2025, in Hamburg.
According to wivb.com, Masse was known to the victim. The outlet reports he was sentenced in Erie County Court to a year and a half in jail following his guilty plea, which resolved the case stemming from the alleged attack.
As WGRZ reports, Masse was arrested about one month after the alleged incident. Investigators had accused him of attempting to have sex with a child under 15 in Hamburg, New York, on Dec. 30, 2025.
Sex Offender Registration and Years of Supervision Ahead
Once Masse is released from jail, he will be required to register as a sex offender, the report notes. He will also be subject to five years of post-release supervision after completing his jail term.
Under New York law, rape in the second degree is classified as a class D felony, according to the New York State Senate. State statute also lays out that the standard post-release supervision period for a determinate sentence is five years, with exceptions spelled out for certain felony sex offenses, according to the New York State Senate.
Protection Order Extends More Than a Decade
A final order of protection for the victim was also issued as part of the sentencing and will remain in effect until July 2037, the same report states. That is about four years after Masse is expected to complete his post-release supervision around 2033.
