A Painful Echo for Carroll County
A fatal pedestrian collision in Carroll County occurred on October 26, 2026. The crash involved 53-year-old David Comer of Westminster, who was struck and killed, with the driver identified as 18-year-old Bridget Dautermann, also of Westminster, according to Maryland State Police. That crash involved a 2014 Kia Optima, state police said, and Comer was pronounced dead at the scene by Carroll County emergency medical personnel.
Statewide, Maryland has reported progress in reducing pedestrian and bicycle deaths. Pedestrian and bicyclist fatalities dropped 33 percent, from 173 in 2024 to 116 in 2025, according to a February 3, 2026, announcement from The Office of Governor Wes Moore. Monday's fatal collision in Westminster is a reminder that such crashes continue to claim lives even as statewide numbers trend downward.
