Canton is getting its first taste of Nashville-style hot chicken this week as Hangry Joe's Hot Chicken & Wings throws open its doors Thursday, Oct. 22, at 41439 Michigan Ave., with free sandwiches on the line for early arrivals. Doors open at 6 p.m., and the first 100 customers who show up will walk away with a free sandwich, no purchase required.

The grand opening, first detailed by the Detroit Free Press, marks the fourth Michigan location for the fast-growing fried chicken chain. The freebie is capped at one sandwich per person, and the deal applies strictly to those first 100 people in line, according to the same report. Regular business hours kick off the next day, Friday, Oct. 23.

What's on the Menu at the New Canton Spot

Hangry Joe's built its name on Nashville-style hot chicken, dishing out sandwiches, tenders, wings, loaded fries and sides, per the Free Press. The Canton location's own website describes jumbo 8-ounce never-frozen chicken breasts, custom spice blends, loaded waffle fries and even boba tea rounding out the menu, according to Hangry Joe's Canton.

Spice-seekers have plenty of room to work up to a challenge. The restaurant offers six distinct heat levels, starting at No Seasoning and climbing through No Heat, Mild, Medium and Hot before topping out at Angry Hot — a tier that reportedly requires a waiver, the restaurant's site notes.

A Growing Michigan Footprint

Founded in 2021 and based in McLean, Virginia, Hangry Joe's has expanded to more than 90 locations nationwide, including existing Michigan restaurants in Livonia, Flint and East Lansing, the Free Press reports. Canton now joins that lineup as the chain's fourth outpost in the state.

The new location is also staffing up ahead of its debut. Hangry Joe's Canton has posted that it is looking for passionate and skilled members to join its new team, according to the restaurant's careers page.

For now, the details beyond opening week remain focused on the grand-opening giveaway and the Friday start of normal hours. Canton diners curious about Nashville-style heat levels, waffle fries and boba tea will get their first look when the doors open Thursday evening.
