Hartford is getting one last warm, summery-feeling day Friday before the forecast takes a sharp turn toward crisp fall weather. Skies will stay mostly sunny through early afternoon, temperatures will climb to about 82 degrees, and showers may move in later in the day.

The National Weather Service Boston/Norton office expects rain showers to begin after about 3 p.m., with the best chance arriving during the late afternoon and evening. A few downpours could be briefly heavy, and an isolated rumble of thunder is possible as the front passes.

Afternoon Showers Arrive After A Warm-Up

Southwest winds will run 7 to 15 knots (about 8 to 17 mph) Friday, with gusts of 20 to 25 knots (about 23 to 29 mph). The rain chance rises through the afternoon, and showers could linger into the evening before tapering off later Friday night.

Temperatures will fall quickly after the front moves through, with mostly cloudy skies and a low near 55 degrees overnight. Saturday will feel noticeably different: sunny, breezy at times, and much cooler, with a high near 70.

Sunny Weekend Gives Way To Colder Nights

Saturday night will be mostly clear with a low around 47, making it a jacket-worthy night for anyone heading out. Sunday should be partly sunny with a high near 66, though a slight chance of showers returns Sunday evening, mainly south of the Hartford area.

Next week stays mostly dry but continues the cooldown. Monday should reach 68 under mostly sunny skies, followed by a high near 59 Tuesday and chilly nighttime temperatures dropping into the upper 30s; more seasonable warmth returns by Thursday, when the high is expected to approach 68.
