A homicide investigation is underway in Hartford after officers responded to a shooting report on East Raymond Street Wednesday night. Police have released few details so far, but they've asked residents to steer clear of the area while the investigation continues.
Officers were called to the area of East Raymond Street following a report of a shooting, according to WFSB. The outlet reported that the victims were two 17-year-old girls; one died, while the other's condition was unknown. Police have asked the public to avoid the area as they work the scene, and no further details have been released.
A City Already Grappling With a Violent Year
Wednesday's shooting adds to what has already been a difficult year for violence in Hartford. By Aug. 5, the city had recorded 14 homicides, according to police figures reported by CT Insider. That count climbs to 16 when two fatal police shootings earlier in the year are factored in, the outlet reported. For comparison, the Hartford Police Department's own CompStat report showed just six homicides by the same point in 2025 — a stark jump that has drawn scrutiny this year.
One of those August cases unfolded after the city's gunshot detection system alerted officers to gunfire around 10:15 p.m. in the 100 block of North Canaan Street, where they found an unresponsive man inside a car, per the same CT Insider account. It's unclear whether Wednesday's East Raymond Street shooting is connected to the broader pattern of violence the city has logged this year, and police have not said so.
Other Recent Shootings in the Region
The East Raymond Street homicide follows other violent incidents in and around Hartford in recent months. In September, a man in his 40s was shot in Hartford early one Monday morning, with his injuries described as non-life-threatening, according to WFSB. And in neighboring East Hartford, police investigated a fatal shooting at a home on Garden Street that left 24-year-old Monsi Jones Jr. dead after he was found with multiple gunshot wounds and taken to a hospital, where he later died, WTNH reported. Police in that case said they believed it was an isolated incident.
No arrests or suspect information have been announced in connection with the East Raymond Street shooting, and police are investigating it as a homicide after one of the victims died. Hoodline will update this story as police release more information.
