A Rough Stretch of Road
Friday's crash is the latest in a series of serious collisions along Point Lookout Road in St. Mary's County. A Southern Maryland Chronicle report from September counted four serious crashes on the same road within a single week, including a rollover that left an SUV overturned against a tree with one occupant trapped inside while two others managed to get out on their own. In that incident, a Maryland State Police helicopter flew the extricated occupant to a trauma center while the other two were treated and taken to area hospitals by ground, the outlet reported.
That same cluster of crashes included a September 3 collision at Point Lookout Road and St. Andrew's Church Road involving a passenger vehicle and a St. Mary's County school bus, in which one adult had to be freed by crews, and a September 4 wreck at Point Lookout Road and Loveville Road that left an SUV driver pinned and seriously injured before she was flown to a trauma center, per the Southern Maryland Chronicle.
