A Hebron High School teacher turned herself in to authorities this week after investigators obtained warrants alleging she had an inappropriate relationship with a 16-year-old student who had previously been in her class. Gloria Resendiz, 35, surrendered to the Carrollton Jail on Tuesday and was charged with indecency with a child involving sexual contact and child grooming.

Resendiz turned herself in to the Carrollton Jail on Tuesday, October 6, and was later transported to the Denton County Jail, according to FOX 4 News Dallas-Fort Worth. The station reported that an investigation had revealed evidence of an inappropriate relationship between Resendiz and a juvenile student, with the charges formally filed the day before her surrender, on Monday, October 5. Not every outlet has agreed on her custody status, however: East Texas Radio reported that Carrollton police said she remained at large, a detail that conflicts with the accounts of her surrender and jail booking.

According to NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth, investigators allege Resendiz had a romantic relationship with a 16-year-old student who had been in her class in the past. The station reported that investigators found deleted iMessage conversations between Resendiz and the student, along with gifts and journal entries that they said described the relationship. Arrest documents cited by the station state that the student wrote she and Resendiz first kissed in March.

Daily Video Calls Lasting Hours, Police Say

Per the same FOX 4 account, Resendiz and the student made WhatsApp video calls at least three or four times a day, with some conversations stretching beyond seven hours. The report traces the case back to Sunday, September 27, when a Hebron High School administrator alerted Carrollton police to concerning communications between Resendiz and the student.

The case moved quickly from that initial report to formal action. A magistrate signed the probable cause determination on October 2, according to NBC 5, setting up the charges filed three days later and Resendiz's surrender the following day.

District Response and Bond Details

Lewisville ISD has placed Resendiz on administrative leave and barred her from entering any district facilities, according to The Dallas Morning News. The newspaper reported that her bond was set at $100,000 as of Tuesday afternoon. The district is also offering counseling services to Hebron High School students through school counselors, the FOX 4 report notes.

The Dallas Morning News reported that the investigation remains ongoing and that additional charges may be filed as evidence is reviewed. CBS Texas similarly reported that police described the case as an active, ongoing investigation that could result in further charges.
