Henderson police are asking for the public's help finding 86-year-old Virgil Tibbs, who was last seen Wednesday morning and is considered an endangered missing person. Officers say he may require medical assistance, and they're hoping someone in the Las Vegas valley spotted him or his car in the days since.
Tibbs was last seen around 10 a.m. Wednesday on Jasmine Point Street, near Wigwam Parkway and Arroyo Grande Boulevard, according to FOX5 Vegas. The Henderson Police Department is asking for the public's help to locate him, and the station reports there is significant concern for his well-being.
Police describe Tibbs as a Black man approximately 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighing 250 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. A separate bulletin from the Nevada Department of Transportation lists him as 190 pounds and bald, a discrepancy that leaves his exact physical description unresolved between the two sources.
What He Was Wearing, and What He's Driving
When he was last seen, Tibbs had on a white sweater, black pants with a white stripe, and a black hat featuring a white letter “D,” per the same report. He drives a dark blue 2014 Chevrolet Malibu, and that vehicle was last spotted near the intersection of Tropicana Avenue and Jones Boulevard in Las Vegas — a notable distance from where Tibbs himself was last seen near Arroyo Grande Boulevard in Henderson.
Police have said Tibbs may require medical assistance, underscoring the urgency behind the search. Investigators have not released additional details about what led them to believe medical care could be needed, and no update on his whereabouts has been made public since the search began.
How to Help
Anyone with information regarding Tibbs's whereabouts is urged to contact the Henderson Police Department by calling 311. With his car already tracked moving between Henderson and Las Vegas, investigators are likely hoping someone along that route, or near either location, may have seen him since Wednesday.
