NoraeBar, the Louisville karaoke bar that spent more than five years as a late-night fixture in NuLu, has been cleared to move forward with construction at its new Highlands location, bringing it one step closer to reopening after a year-long wait. The bar has not announced an opening date, but it says the paperwork hurdle clearing is a sign the comeback is finally gaining momentum.
According to WHAS11, NoraeBar spent nearly a year working through permits and paperwork before getting the green light to begin construction at its new address on October 20. The karaoke bar closed its NuLu location in 2025 after more than five years on Main Street, and in March it announced it would reopen in the former Gravely Brewing Company tap room at 514 Baxter Avenue, placing it squarely in Louisville's Historic Highlands district.
NoraeBar has described its return as a comeback tour getting closer, and the bar's owners have promised that the wait will be worth it, according to WHAS11's reporting. The business has also been sharing updates about ongoing renovations at the new Baxter Avenue space, though specifics on construction timelines have not been made public.
From NuLu to the Highlands
The move to Baxter Avenue caps a winding path out of NuLu. WAVE3 reported that NoraeBar's closure followed news in August that the building housing its Main Street location was being sold to new owners, a development that prompted the bar to shut its doors for good. The bar's grand finale was October 19, 2025, and Sunday was reserved for a private gathering of friends and family, the station reported.
Accounts of exactly when NoraeBar closed and how long it operated in NuLu vary slightly across outlets. WAVE3 described the bar as having been Main Street's go-to late-night karaoke spot for the past five years, while the Courier-Journal reported the business closed at 717 E. Market St. in October 2025. Regardless of the exact timeline, the bar's new chapter is now centered on the former Gravely Brewing building, a notable address swap for Louisville's karaoke scene.
What to Expect at the New Spot
WLKY reports that NoraeBar is aiming for the second quarter to reopen, though an official date still has not been set. The outlet also notes that NoraeBar has said customers can expect the same great vibes and atmosphere once the new location is up and running, a promise aimed at reassuring longtime regulars who followed the bar through its NuLu run.
On its website, NoraeBar describes the new address as being on Baxter Avenue in the Historic Highlands district and continues to tout the private karaoke rooms it rents out by the hour, a signature feature of its business model. The bar is encouraging fans to join its updates list for news on the return date and grand-opening events, rather than relying solely on social media or press announcements.
NoraeBar has thanked its staff, partners, friends and the community for their continued support throughout the transition, according to WHAS11. Separately, development proposals in the Bardstown Road/Baxter Avenue Corridor Review Overlay District must comply with the district's design guidelines and gain approval from the Urban Design Administrator or the BROD Committee, per Louisville Metro Government planning materials. City permit paperwork for the project also warns that inaccurate information could trigger permit revocation under the Kentucky Building Code, and that any deviation from approved plans requires sign-off from the city's permitting office, according to the Louisville Metro change-of-use permit application.
For now, Highlands neighbors and NuLu regulars alike are left watching for the next update. With construction cleared to begin, NoraeBar's second-quarter target feels a little closer, even as the exact date of its grand reopening remains an open question.
