A piece of St. Martinville history was unveiled this week, as the Castillo Hotel debuted as a rebuilt property in the heart of downtown, with guests touring the grounds to see the transformation firsthand.
The unveiling took place Wednesday, according to NOLA.com, which reported that guests toured the grounds as the rebuilt hotel made its debut in downtown St. Martinville. The hotel’s debut comes as listings for the Old Castillo Boutique Hotel advertise the property as reopening under new management this fall, with reservations now being accepted for fall 2026 and all of 2027, according to a listing on experienceourlouisiana.com.
The hotel sits at 220 Evangeline Blvd. in Saint Martinville, per a Tripadvisor listing for the property.
The building earned a formal historic designation decades later. It was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978 by the U.S. Department of the Interior, according to the same historical marker listing.
What Guests Can Expect From the Reopened Hotel
The property is being marketed as a boutique experience with seven antique-furnished rooms, each with a private bath, and the listing on experienceourlouisiana.com says the entire hotel can accommodate up to 18 guests. The location also trades on its proximity to some of the town's best-known landmarks, with the listing noting it sits steps away from the Evangeline Oak, Bayou Teche and Saint Martin de Tours Church.
St. Martinville has long leaned into that kind of historic and cultural appeal for visitors. The town remains rich in historic sites, including the Longfellow-Evangeline State Historic Site, the Maison Olivier plantation and the Acadian Memorial, and continues to celebrate its Cajun heritage, according to Cajun Country. A rebuilt, reopened Castillo Hotel slots neatly into that same downtown landscape, just blocks from the oak tree and church that draw many visitors to the area in the first place.
For now, the Castillo Hotel's unveiling marks a fresh chapter for a downtown property, with the hotel listed as a boutique stay for future visitors to St. Martinville.
