A Pattern of Violence in Whittier
This is not the first time Whittier has grappled with a sudden, unresolved death in recent memory. In July 2025, a man was found fatally shot inside his car near Pickering Avenue and Penn Street, not far from a school, according to the Los Angeles Times. That victim had multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene, and the shooter remained at large as of early that Thursday evening, the paper reported.
A separate case in the area involved a 19-year-old man killed in an apparent drive-by shooting near a strip mall on a Saturday evening, as reported by CBS News Los Angeles. That shooting happened at around 5:30 p.m. in the 10000 block of Mills Avenue.
