A Honolulu malasada bakery known for stuffing its fried dough with everything from ube to Nutella is setting up shop in southwest Las Vegas. Penny’s Waikiki Malasadas is opening its first Las Vegas location at 8525 Blue Diamond Road, Suite 130, bringing its lineup of freshly prepared, yeasty deep-fried Hawaiian doughnuts to the valley.
The Honolulu-based bakery has been teasing its Las Vegas arrival on Instagram for at least two months, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal. The company said, “We’re putting the finishing touches on our new space and can’t wait to serve up our iconic malasadas and newest creations!” Penny’s runs its home operation out of the food court at Waikiki’s Royal Hawaiian Center, according to the business’s own locations page, and identifies itself on its website as a Hawaiian doughnut business based in Honolulu.
From a Laie Food Truck to a Growing Island Brand
Penny’s Malasadas has served Hawaii residents since 2018, per the company’s locations listing. The business started as a stationary food truck in Laie before expanding to a second truck in Aiea, and later added its Royal Hawaiian Center storefront, according to KHON2. The name itself carries a personal history: Penny’s is named after the general manager’s late mother, who first taught him how to bake and fry, the station reports.
Flavor variety has become central to the brand’s identity. The menu runs more than 20 flavor combinations deep, KHON2 notes, with house favorites including Dole Whip, Key Lime Pie and Coconut Cream. The Las Vegas shop is expected to serve traditional malasadas tossed in white sugar, cinnamon sugar or a specialty sugar of the day, along with versions filled with original custard, house jam, coconut, ube, Nutella or specialty crème, plus tea, coffee, cocoa and cold beverages.
A Crowded Field for Hawaiian Doughnuts in the Valley
Penny’s won’t be the only Hawaiian malasada option in town. Pipeline Malasadas, which has connections to Hawaii and is owned by Gayla Young, a native Hawaiian, opened its first Las Vegas shop in May 2025 at 6945 South Buffalo Drive, Suite 100, near the 215 Freeway in the southwest valley, according to News3LV. That bakery marked its debut with a five-day grand-opening celebration running from May 22 through Memorial Day, May 26, 2025, the station reported.
Pipeline has since expanded further. Accounts differ on the precise status of its second Las Vegas bakery at 4485 W. Silverado Ranch Blvd.: the Review-Journal's dining-out desk reported the second location was planned to open to the public in August, while the Review-Journal's seed reporting on Penny’s describes the second Pipeline shop as having opened in August 2026. Pipeline’s menu includes malasadas dusted with white, cinnamon, cocoa, coffee or li hing mui sugar, along with versions filled with custard or chocolate and seasonal sugars or fillings, per the same dining-out report.
Penny’s enters that competitive landscape as it brings its own long list of flavors to a new audience far from its Waikiki roots. For now, the exact opening date, hours and full menu for the Blue Diamond Road location remain details the bakery has yet to announce publicly.
