Coffee Girl opened its first Honolulu location Sept. 26 at 629 Keʻeaumoku St. inside Azure Ala Moana, bringing specialty lattes, local pastries and build-your-own avocado toast to the neighborhood. The opening came days before the cafe’s planned grand opening, Aloha State Daily reported.

The cafe has a modern white-and-gold interior accented with roses, a design that echoes Coffee Girl’s Hilo shops, according to Aloha State Daily. Its grand opening is set for Saturday at 8 a.m.; the first 100 customers are promised free goodie bags.

From Hilo Pop-Up to Honolulu Storefront

The Honolulu shop is Coffee Girl’s third location. Owner Savanica Johansen opened the first cafe at 2100 Kanoelehua Ave. in Hilo in March 2023, followed by a second at 42 Waianuenue Ave. downtown, according to the outlet’s report.

Coffee Girl began as a delivery operation around 2021, with drinks priced at $3. Johansen used proceeds from a real estate sale to fund the first storefront, per the same account.

Pink Macchiatos And A Fast Build-Out

Johansen told the outlet she decided to bring Coffee Girl to Honolulu after a vacation visit to Oʻahu in June. Work on the Azure Ala Moana space started at the end of August, and the shop was completed in roughly four weeks; she described the process from decision to opening as about 60 days.

The menu's signature item is the pink macchiato, made with white chocolate, vanilla, strawberry milk and espresso shots. Other specialty lattes include chocolate haupia pie, banana bread and white chocolate strawberry flavors, alongside frappes, lemonade, matchas, teas, hot cocoa and chocolate milkshakes that are part of the brand's broader menu.

Local Pastries And A Full Food Menu

The Honolulu location features local baked goods from Coco's Cravings 808, Aloha Loaf and Lyman Lattes, continuing Coffee Girl's practice of collaborating with local bakers for rotating treats. For heartier options, the menu includes a build-your-own avocado toast starting at $14.95, a grilled cheese for $10.95 and a chicken pesto panini for $16.95, per a report from Aloha State Daily.

Customer parking is available at Azure Ala Moana, the report notes. The shop is currently open daily from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.; hours are expected to change to 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily after the Oct. 3 grand opening.

Hawaiʻi Coffee Production

Statewide agricultural output offers a broader coffee-industry measure, but it does not indicate how many cafés are opening or where Coffee Girl sources its coffee. The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Agricultural Statistics Service forecast Hawaiʻi’s utilized coffee production at 17.8 million pounds, on a cherry basis, for the 2025-2026 season, down 20 percent from the previous season. The state had 6,500 bearing acres, 500 fewer than the year before, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Agricultural Statistics Service.

Eyeing More Islands And Beyond

Johansen said her long-term vision is to open Coffee Girl locations across the islands, and possibly on the mainland. With Hilo's two shops now joined by the Honolulu storefront, the brand's expansion plans appear to be picking up pace more than four years after its coffee-delivery beginnings.
