Hoover's long-planned Riverwalk Health & Wellness Center is part of a mixed-use development that has been years in the making near Riverchase Parkway. The center is planned for 250 Riverchase Parkway East.

The development was first announced in 2023.

From Surgery Center Proposal to Full Wellness Campus

The project has evolved substantially since its earliest filings. In January 2024, the Hoover Health Care Authority filed a certificate of need application for what was then described as a 90-acre health and wellness development, according to AL.com. That plan centered on an ambulatory surgery center and a diagnostic facility, as reported by ABC 33/40.

The Hoover Health Care Authority filed an application with the Alabama State Health Planning and Development Agency for a multispecialty ambulatory care center, the station noted. HooverSun has described the broader Riverwalk Village footprint as 90 acres, as reported by HooverSun.

Homes, Offices and Trails Fill Out Riverwalk Village

The health center is just one piece of the larger Riverwalk Village development, which Bham Now has described as a mixed-use plan including medical offices, walking trails, green spaces and housing and retail areas. The district also includes 450,000 square feet of existing corporate offices, according to AL.com, and Regions Bank has said it plans to maintain a significant presence across both the existing and new development.

Riverwalk Village also includes residential units.

The broader development is planned to include a hotel, residential units and retail.
