A crash between a garbage truck and a car on John’s Road in Hueytown left four people injured, two of them with injuries serious enough to require an airlift to the hospital. The wreck happened in front of the Jefferson County water treatment plant, shutting down the roadway before it reopened later.
According to WBRC, all four people injured were riding in the car at the time of the collision. Two of them were airlifted to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, while the other two were taken to a hospital by ambulance. The driver of the garbage truck was not hurt in the crash.
Road Reopens After Closure Near Water Plant
Hueytown police reported that the crash involved a garbage truck and a car, and the station’s report notes that John’s Road was initially closed because of the wreck in front of the Jefferson County water treatment plant. The road has since reopened, per Hueytown police, though further details on the circumstances of the crash were not released.
No information has been made available about the identities, ages, or conditions of the four people hurt in the crash, nor which hospitals treated them. The cause of the collision and the company or driver behind the garbage truck have also not been disclosed.
The garbage truck’s operator cannot be identified from the crash location alone: Jefferson County says AmWaste is the franchised household-waste collector for unincorporated areas, while residents within city limits are directed to contact their city’s solid-waste department. The county contract took effect April 1, 2025, and applies to unincorporated areas, so it does not establish which company owned or operated the truck involved in the Hueytown collision.
