A woman in Philadelphia’s Hunting Park neighborhood was robbed at gunpoint after helping two men jump-start their car, according to a report citing investigators. The robbery happened shortly before 1 p.m. Friday in the 1100 block of West Courtland Street.
A Roadside Favor Turns Dangerous
According to investigators cited by 6abc, the men asked for help after their car battery died. A neighborhood resident let them connect jumper cables to her vehicle.
After the car started, one of the men allegedly pulled a gun and demanded cash, authorities said. The woman handed over her pocketbook, and the two men left separately.
Suspects Split Up, Fled in Different Directions
Police said one suspect fled on foot and the other drove away in a silver Jeep Compass.
A Different Kind of Pennsylvania Robbery
An earlier Pennsylvania case identified in the available research involved different circumstances: the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General said a group targeted truckers and other motorists at rest stops in Somerset, Westmoreland and Dauphin counties in April 2023. Officials described those as distraction-style robberies in which no weapons were used. That case did not involve a driver stopping to help a stranded motorist.
Hunting Park resident Mac Johnson told 6abc that incidents like this can make people hesitant to help others.
Investigation Continues
The 6abc report said no arrests had been made and that the suspects should be considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with information is asked to contact Northwest Detectives.
