A husband and wife accused of draining more than $3.27 million from two Idabel businesses over five years turned themselves in this week after an investigation that began in June. Bria and Zane Davey, both 37, were booked into the McCurtain County Jail on embezzlement charges Thursday before posting bond in an amount that has not been disclosed.
According to kxii.com, the case centers on two Idabel businesses, McCurtain Cinema and Gasquatch, a local gas station. Bria Davey was hired as a secretary and bookkeeper for both businesses in March 2021.
How the Scheme Allegedly Came to Light
The investigation began in June after the Idabel Police Department asked the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation to look into allegations involving the two businesses, the outlet reports. Per a related account from KOKH, Idabel police officers received a report of employee embezzlement on June 4, and OSBI special agents investigated the case.
KOKH's reporting indicates that a business owner discovered the companies' credit cards had been linked to Cash App without authorization, and that financial records revealed numerous unauthorized checks had been issued from the business accounts. Investigators tracked multiple transactions to accounts associated with Bria and Zane Davey, who is identified as Bria's husband.
Millions Allegedly Moved Over Five Years
Investigators allege that Bria and Zane Davey cashed numerous unauthorized checks and made multiple unauthorized transactions to their own accounts using the business credit cards linked to Cash App, per the same kxii.com account. From Bria's hiring in March 2021 to May of this year, the couple allegedly embezzled a total of over $3.27 million from McCurtain Cinema and Gasquatch combined.
No primary court documents detailing the precise charges or case numbers were available, and it remains unclear whether the Daveys have entered pleas, retained attorneys, or have upcoming court dates. The case so far rests on the allegations outlined by investigators, and no conviction or final disposition has been reported.
