Iredell County deputies have begun rounding up some of the more than 75 people wanted on narcotics-related charges following a sweeping investigation into drug distribution and trafficking across the county. The operation, one of the largest the sheriff's office has mounted in recent years, has already produced seizures of methamphetamine, cocaine, pills and paraphernalia as arrests continue.
According to whky.com, the Iredell County Sheriff's Office launched the large-scale operation targeting people allegedly involved in distributing and trafficking illegal narcotics throughout the county, with more than 75 suspects identified for arrest on alleged narcotics-related offenses. Investigators say they built the case through undercover operations, traffic stops, surveillance, intelligence gathering and tips from community members. As reported by WCNC, the sheriff's office has already begun arresting some of those wanted, with the roundup tied to the broader narcotics operation.
Suspects Accused of Selling to Undercover Detectives
The suspects face a range of alleged conduct, including selling controlled substances to undercover detectives, trafficking and transporting narcotics, maintaining residences or vehicles to facilitate drug activity, and conspiracy to distribute controlled substances, per the same account from whky.com. Investigators reported seizing approximately 113 grams of methamphetamine and 24 grams of cocaine, along with narcotics pills and drug paraphernalia, during the course of the investigation.
Sheriff Darren Campbell framed the operation around community safety, saying the goal is serving the community, protecting citizens and disrupting the illegal narcotics trade that fuels other criminal activity throughout Iredell County. He added that narcotics activity often has a direct connection to other crimes, and that dismantling these networks is a critical part of reducing crime and keeping communities safe, the station's report notes. Campbell also said the sheriff's office has reduced overall crime by approximately 58 percent in less than a decade, though the methodology behind that figure was not detailed.
How This Compares to Past Iredell Operations
This is not the first time Iredell County has run a large-scale narcotics sweep. A fall 2025 operation sought 54 people on felony and misdemeanor drug offenses, with 33 arrested and 21 still wanted at the time, according to the Iredell County Sheriff's Office. That earlier sweep followed a months-long investigation by the office's Narcotics Division and ACE Team, with deputies executing search warrants and arrest warrants on people identified through undercover work, citizen complaints and ongoing investigations. The sheriff's office said at the time that everyone charged had either sold narcotics to undercover deputies, facilitated a drug transaction or possessed controlled substances in the presence of law enforcement.
Earlier in 2026, a six-month undercover operation run jointly by the sheriff's office and the N.C. State Bureau of Investigation targeted an organized drug distribution network, culminating in felony arrest warrants for 10 suspects obtained on June 30, as reported by Iredell Free News. Years earlier, the sheriff's office pursued a similarly sized sweep, with Campbell telling Statesville.com that his office planned to arrest more than 60 suspected drug dealers that week.
Arrests Expected to Continue
The sheriff's office said it will continue making arrests until all identified suspects in the current operation are caught, according to WCNC's reporting.
