A dispute between three people in Irving turned violent before sunrise on Sunday, leaving two people injured by gunfire in the 1800 block of South Story Road. Officers responded to the scene at approximately 3:30 a.m., and officials say the investigation into exactly what sparked the shooting is still active.
According to NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth, three people were involved in the altercation that ultimately left two of them hurt. A preliminary investigation found that a dispute between multiple people resulted in gunfire, officials told the station, though the exact trigger for the confrontation has not been disclosed.
Some of the injured sustained non-life-threatening wounds, per the same report, but officials have not released further detail on the extent of either victim's injuries. The station notes that officials say the investigation is ongoing, with no additional information yet made public about what preceded the gunfire or who was involved.
A Pattern Of Late-Night Altercations Turning Deadly Serious
Sunday's shooting is not the only recent instance of a dispute in the Irving area boiling over into gunfire. In June 2025, three people were transported to a hospital after a shooting outside a Waffle House in Irving, according to CBS News Texas. That shooting occurred at about 6:15 a.m. in the 2000 block of East State Highway 356, where police said three people were hit by gunfire in the parking lot. Two of those victims suffered non-life-threatening injuries, while a third sustained more serious wounds, the outlet reported.
Just over a week after the Irving shooting, a separate overnight confrontation in Fort Worth turned fatal. Two men were killed and two others were seriously injured in a shootout at a large backyard gathering, Fox 4 News reported. Police said that shooting happened at about 3:32 a.m. in the 4300 block of Martin Street near Miller Avenue, after an argument between a man and a woman escalated into a confrontation involving multiple handguns.
Road Rage Shootings Have Also Rattled The Area
Disputes escalating into gunfire have taken other forms around North Texas as well. A separate Irving incident in June involved a BMW driver and the driver of a maroon Chrysler 200 in an altercation that began in the parking lot of Romark Logistics around 7:30 a.m., according to the Star-Telegram. Police-shared video showed the BMW driver firing 17 shots from two guns at the other man before leaving the scene. No one was hit in that encounter, though several vehicles, including one that was occupied, were struck by gunfire.
The Star-Telegram reported that authorities across the Dallas-Fort Worth area have been contending with a recent increase in road-rage incidents, a trend separate from Sunday's altercation but part of a broader backdrop of disputes turning violent on North Texas streets. Officials have not said whether Sunday's shooting on South Story Road was connected to a traffic dispute or any other specific trigger, and the investigation into the case remains open.
