A Jacksonville woman opening her door for what she thought was a DoorDash delivery instead found two young children standing outside, alone and unannounced. Twenty-four-year-old Ezra Tyson now faces two felony child-neglect charges.
According to News4JAX, the incident happened on October 9. The woman had been expecting a food delivery and instead found two children unsupervised at her door.
Warrant Issued Days After the Incident
An arrest warrant for Tyson was issued on October 12, just three days after the children were found at the woman's door, the station's report notes. It took nearly another week before officers caught up with him.
Jacksonville Sheriff's Office officers executed the warrant in the early morning hours of October 18, locating Tyson at a business on Norwood Avenue and taking him into custody.
Felony Charges and Strict Release Conditions
Tyson is now charged with two counts of child neglect, a third-degree felony under Florida law. Bond was set at $10,003 per count.
As a condition of his release, Tyson is barred from having unsupervised contact with minors, from contacting the victim, and from possessing firearms or weapons. He is also required to wear a GPS or ankle monitor.
Florida law does not require a pattern of conduct for a neglect charge to stick. Under Florida Statute 827.03, child neglect can be based on a single incident or omission that results in, or could reasonably be expected to result in, serious physical or mental injury or a substantial risk of death.
