A 29-year-old man was stabbed multiple times in the chest and later died after officers found him in front of a building near 173rd Street on Jamaica Avenue early Saturday. Police had responded around 1 a.m. to a 911 call reporting a man who had been stabbed at 173-12 Jamaica Avenue in Jamaica, Queens. EMS personnel rushed him to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
According to FOX 5 New York, 103rd Precinct officers located the victim in front of the building before EMS transported him to Jamaica Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Authorities have not publicly identified him, pending family notification. The 103rd Precinct's station house sits at 168-02 91st Avenue, roughly five blocks south of the Jamaica Avenue scene, according to the NYPD.
Police have not released a description of a suspect, have not established a motive, and have made no arrests, per the same account. The homicide investigation remains ongoing, and whoever is responsible for the killing remains at large.
A Trauma Hub Built for Exactly This
Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, where the victim was pronounced dead, is the only New York State-designated Level 1 Trauma Center serving Southeast Queens, according to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center. The hospital earned reverification as an American College of Surgeons Level 1 Trauma Center with zero deficiencies in June, marking its second consecutive defect-free survey. Central Jamaica's emergency medical coverage is also supported by FDNY EMS Station 50, located at 159-10 Goethals Avenue, per municipal planning records from the NYC Department of City Planning.
Part of a Troubling Pattern Along the Corridor
Saturday's stabbing is the latest in a string of violent incidents that have unsettled the area in recent days. Two separate fatal stabbings struck Queens on September 30 — one on a Jamaica Avenue subway platform and another in Far Rockaway — according to the Roosevelt Island Daily. Just two days before that, on October 1, NYPD officers responding to a call at 139th Street and Hillside Avenue, less than two miles from Jamaica Avenue, discovered a charred, unidentified body in a vacant lot, a case Hoodline previously reported remains under investigation by the medical examiner.
Earlier in September, detectives opened a homicide investigation after a 31-year-old woman was found fatally stabbed inside an abandoned home in nearby South Jamaica. A mid-2026 commercial property analysis by Vertex Security had already flagged the 103rd Precinct corridor along Jamaica Avenue as an active commercial area with elevated property and violent crime rates relative to citywide averages, according to Vertex Security.
What the Numbers Show
Official NYPD CompStat data through September 27 showed the 103rd Precinct had recorded two homicides for the year, a 50 percent decrease compared with four homicides during the same period in 2025, according to the NYPD. But felony assaults in the precinct rose 6.9 percent over the same stretch, reaching 585 reported incidents compared with 547 a year earlier, the same data shows.
That tension between falling homicides and rising felony assaults frames the backdrop against which Saturday's killing unfolded. For now, investigators have not said whether surveillance cameras along the Jamaica Avenue commercial strip captured the attack, nor have they connected the victim to any suspect. The NYPD homicide investigation continues.
