A Jamestown man is facing four felony charges after police say he threatened to kill officers, waved a knife at them, and then threw it at one of them during a confrontation at a condemned east-side property Thursday. Brandon T. Jimerson, 42, was taken into custody a short time after the encounter and held pending arraignment in Jamestown City Court.
According to the Post-Journal, officers responded to an intersection on the city's east side after receiving a report of a suspicious person. WRFA/Chautauqua Today reports that call came in at about 4:15 p.m. Thursday. When officers arrived, they found Jimerson at an address in an area of the city that has been condemned.
Knife Allegedly Thrown at Officer
Police say Jimerson displayed and waved a knife while threatening to kill the responding officer and other officers on scene, per the Post-Journal's report. The outlet's account adds that Jimerson allegedly waved the knife at a second responding officer as well before reportedly throwing the knife at one of the officers just before he was arrested.
Jimerson was taken into custody a short time later, and per the same account, he was held pending arraignment in Jamestown City Court. No details have been released about the type of knife involved, whether anyone was struck or injured, or the identities of the officers who responded.
Four Felony Counts Filed
The Post-Journal's report states Jimerson was charged with two counts of felony menacing a police officer, one count of second-degree felony attempted assault, one count of third-degree felony criminal possession of a weapon, and trespassing. Under New York law, a conviction for the violent felony offense of menacing a police officer or peace officer carries a determinate sentence of imprisonment, except for a specified statutory exception, according to New York State Senate records of Penal Law Section 70.02.
It remains unclear whether Jimerson has entered a plea or what came of his arraignment, since no court record, charging instrument or police report was made available detailing the next steps in the case.
Not Jimerson's First Brush With a Condemned Property
This is not the first time Jimerson has been arrested in connection with a condemned residence in Jamestown. In May 2024, the Post-Journal reported that Brandon T. Jimerson, then listed as 39, was charged with third-degree criminal trespass after officers found him inside a condemned residence and took him into custody, transporting him to the city jail to await arraignment. The two reports list different ages for Jimerson about two years and five months apart, a discrepancy that has not been independently resolved.
