A welfare check on Janesville's east side turned into a homicide investigation Sunday evening after police found a person dead inside an apartment in the 800 block of Myrtle Way and took a 58-year-old man into custody nearby. The Rock County Medical Examiner's Office has since determined the manner of death was homicide, and the man taken into custody, identified as Andrew Bradley of Janesville, faces a potential charge tied to domestic violence.
According to WMTV, officers responded to the welfare check around 6 p.m. Sunday and located the body inside the apartment. Officers found Bradley near the apartment complex and took him into custody, the station reported. Police arrested Bradley on a potential charge of first-degree intentional homicide involving domestic violence, per the same report.
As reported by The Gazette, Janesville police said the man was in custody on suspicion of homicide after the person was found dead in the apartment Sunday evening. Bradley was taken into custody and transported for medical treatment, WKOW reported, and he remained in custody at the time of that report.
Victim's Identity Still Withheld
Police have not disclosed details about the person found dead inside the apartment. Channel3000 reported that officers did not release the victim's name, age or gender, leaving the identity of the person killed unknown to the public for now.
The investigation remains open as authorities continue working the case. Police said they believe this to be an isolated incident and that there is no danger to the community at this time, a statement echoed across the initial reporting on the case.
