A man was taken to the hospital after a rollover crash in southeast Fresno early Friday morning, when his truck went off the road, flipped onto its side and slammed into a telephone pole. Rescue crews had to cut him free using the jaws of life before he could be taken for medical treatment.
The crash happened around 3 a.m. near Jensen Avenue and Chestnut Avenue, according to YourCentralValley.com. The driver reportedly lost control of the truck, which then rolled over and came to rest against the pole. Rescue crews used specialized cutting equipment to free him from the wreckage.
Cause of the Crash Still Under Investigation
Investigators are still working to determine what caused the truck to leave the roadway, per the same report. No further details on the man's condition have been released.
Fresno County has recorded among the highest traffic fatality numbers in the state, and officials note that fatal collisions are often tied to impaired, distracted or speeding drivers, according to the County of Fresno. That broader pattern has not been linked to Friday's crash, and investigators have not said what role, if any, those factors played.
Another Recent Rollover in the Same Part of Fresno
Rollover crashes have cropped up elsewhere in the city recently. In a separate incident near Chestnut and Princeton avenues, two vehicles collided after one made an unsafe turn, causing one of the cars to flip, the California Highway Patrol reported, according to the station's earlier coverage. No injuries were reported in that crash, and drugs and alcohol did not appear to be a factor, per the same account. That case is not connected to Friday's rollover on Jensen Avenue.
