A new café from the family behind Jayna Gyro is planned for Midtown Sacramento, with a menu spanning morning pastries and late-night crêpes. Yusuf Topal and his brother Levent plan to open JEYAS Café & Pâtisserie at Ice Blocks, with proposed hours of 6:30 a.m. to midnight.

According to Abridged — PBS KVIE, the café is aiming to open in late spring 2027, taking over the former Pressed Juicery storefront along with the Ice Blocks development's adjacent leasing office. The address is set at 1710 R St., Suite 170, with seating planned both indoors and out. Yusuf Topal, who already owns Jayna Gyro in East Sacramento, has spent more than 30 years in hospitality, a run that also includes Tarla Mediterranean Grill in Napa and Cellar, the restaurant inside The Jacquelyn private social club in Midtown.

A Menu Built for All Hours

The planned menu leans heavily on pastry: specialty croissants, desserts, sweet and savory French-style crêpes, sandwiches, specialty coffee, smoothies and açaí bowls are all on the list, per the same outlet's reporting. Topal said the goal is for JEYAS to cover the full arc of a day — early coffee and croissants, meals shared with friends, and dessert cravings that hit late at night. That stretch from morning pastry case to midnight dessert run is also reflected in the planned hours themselves, which would push later into the night than some other Midtown dessert spots keep.

Levent Topal is expected to oversee JEYAS's day-to-day operations, while the pastry side of the business will be led by Sacramento-born chef Antonio Coriano, who brings more than a decade of culinary experience to the project. Coriano has held roles as executive pastry chef at Old Soul Co. and lead macaron baker at Ginger Elizabeth Chocolates, and he worked as pastry chef de partie at Michelin-starred Protégé in Palo Alto until June 2026. He has also spent time at Pistachio & Cream, the Italian-style dessert shop in Midtown.

Named for Family, Aimed at the Neighborhood

JEYAS combines the names of Topal's three daughters — Jeyda, Yasemin and Ashley. Topal has said he sees Ice Blocks as a good fit for the concept and hopes the café will become a regular neighborhood destination.

Developer Michael Heller has said he was already a Jayna Gyro customer and admired the restaurant's food. He said he was excited when Topal expressed interest in bringing a concept to Ice Blocks.

The R Street setting

Ice Blocks' leasing materials describe it as a three-block mixed-use redevelopment in the historic R Street Corridor. Sacramento City Express reported that the project reused the century-old Crystal Ice and Cold Storage building, which had last been used in 1997. The city's historic register traces the corridor's rail-related history to 1855, when Sacramento granted a right-of-way on R Street to the Sacramento Valley Railroad. These sources document the site's history and present-day setting, but do not detail the corridor's full transition or city-planning goals. The City of Sacramento says zoning standards depend on a property's location and proposed uses. That general guidance does not establish the zoning, permits or operating-hour conditions that would apply to JEYAS at 1710 R St., including whether any conditions relate to the reported midnight closing time.

What's Still Unknown

Further menu specifics, interior design plans and grand-opening details for JEYAS are expected to be announced as the project moves forward, according to the same report. For now, the broad strokes — the daylong hours, the pastry-forward menu and the family ties behind the name — are what Sacramento diners have to go on ahead of the café's late-spring 2027 target.
