Jefferson County's 2026 Human Trafficking Summit centered on human trafficking.
The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office posted about the 2026 Jefferson County Human Trafficking Summit.
The 2026 summit focused on human trafficking.
Spotting the Warning Signs
Authorities told Denver7 that a dysfunctional household, frequent runaways or limited support can leave people exposed to exploitation.
A Crime That Increasingly Starts Online
The push for better coordination comes as trafficking recruitment tactics keep shifting toward digital spaces. Reporting from Sentinel Colorado found that most recruitment now occurs online through social media platforms such as Discord or Instagram, along with messaging apps, according to one investigator cited in that report. The same reporting noted that Colorado's FBI-led human trafficking task force was formed in 2012, and that in 2025, 78 people were charged with sex trafficking statewide while 20 were charged with labor trafficking.
A Previous Summit Notice
A prior notice from jeffco.us announced a free, two-day Jeffco Human Trafficking Summit scheduled for July 23-24, 2025, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Statewide, Colorado has built out formal structures aimed at sustaining this kind of work between events. The Colorado Division of Criminal Justice notes that the state's Human Trafficking Council established a Service Provider Partnership Task Force to strengthen the overall response to service provision for victims and survivors. The division's annual reports also compile data on trafficking incidences and the efforts of law enforcement, prosecutors, child welfare agencies and service providers across the state.
Other regional events reflect a similar push to train a wide range of professionals. The Northern Colorado Human Trafficking Symposium, listed by the federal Office of Justice Programs, offers separate awareness, professional and research tracks for attendees.
Legally, Colorado defines trafficking of minors as child abuse.
