A man was killed Thursday night after being hit by a vehicle in Jeffersontown, with officers finding him dead at the scene on South Hurstbourne Parkway. The crash happened in the northbound lanes near Blairwood Road, and investigators have not yet said what led up to it.
Jeffersontown police said officers responded around 10:20 p.m. Thursday to reports of a collision involving a pedestrian in the northbound lanes of South Hurstbourne Parkway at Blairwood Road, according to WDRB. The man was pronounced dead at the scene, and the same report notes the cause of the collision remains under investigation. WLKY reported that officials did not specify whether the driver remained at the scene.
The Jeffersontown Police Department is leading the investigation into the crash, per the station's report. No further details about the man or the vehicle involved have been released.
A Stretch Of Road With A Troubled History
Thursday night's crash marks at least the third fatal or near-fatal pedestrian collision on or near South Hurstbourne Parkway within roughly the past year and a half. In May, a man died after being hit while trying to cross South Hurstbourne Parkway near Watterson Trail around 10:30 p.m., according to WLKY. Police said at the time that the man was not in a crosswalk, and investigators said the driver initially left the scene before later returning.
In March 2025, a pedestrian struck on Hurstbourne Parkway was taken to the hospital in critical condition and died days later, WLKY reported. In that case, all parties involved remained at the scene, and the Louisville Metro Police Department's Traffic Unit handled the investigation. A separate fatal hit-and-run on Bardstown Road in Louisville over the summer, reported by WDRB, underscored that pedestrian deaths tied to vehicle strikes have not been confined to one corridor this year.
Citywide Efforts To Curb Pedestrian Deaths
Louisville Metro Government has been building out data tools meant to identify the city's most dangerous roads for walkers. A High Injury Network dataset maintained by the city, drawn from 2018-2022 crash data and joined with street-centerline mapping, is intended to support the broader Vision Zero Louisville initiative, according to Louisville Metro Government. Vision Zero Louisville says it uses the internationally recognized Safe System Approach, which prioritizes preventing fatal and serious-injury crashes through overlapping strategies rather than any single fix.
A separate 2024 report titled Understanding Pedestrian Crashes examined pedestrian collisions across Jefferson County between 2011 and 2020 on public streets and roadways, excluding expressways, freeways and interstates, per Louisville Metro Government's pedestrian safety page. The available city data does not identify a specific crash trend for the intersection of South Hurstbourne Parkway and Blairwood Road, and no connection between Thursday's crash and those broader datasets has been established.
Jeffersontown police have not released additional details about Thursday's collision, and the investigation remains ongoing.
