Fairfax Corner has a new place to sink into a custom-built sofa. Joybird, the made-to-order furniture company, opened its first Virginia showroom at the Fairfax shopping center on October 9, marking the brand's 19th retail location nationwide.
The store sits at 11948 Grand Commons Avenue, Suite E948, according to Joybird's own listing, in a space that previously housed a King Arthur Baking Company pop-up, as FFXnow reported. Shoppers can browse customizable sofas, chairs and other home furnishings, and test out new power-reclining sofas and chairs in person, according to Patch.
Inside the Showroom
The centerpiece of the store is an interactive swatch wall showcasing more than 80 fabric and leather options, Patch's report notes. Beyond seating, the showroom stocks rugs, floor lamps, throw pillows and other home accessories for shoppers looking to round out a room, not just replace a couch.
Joybird also offers free in-person design consultations at the Fairfax location, the outlet reports, pairing hands-on browsing with guidance from staff. For shoppers who want to plan before they arrive, or finish the job at home, the company's online tools let customers measure rooms, build modular sofas and preview furniture layouts in 3D.
A Changing Retail Mix at Fairfax Corner
Joybird's arrival lands amid a busy stretch for the 300,000-square-foot mixed-use center at 4100 Monument Drive, developed and managed by Peterson Companies. Over a recent 14-month span, Fairfax Corner delivered more than 58,000 square feet of newly occupied space or signed leases, the company says, part of a $110 million expansion that included full lease-up of a new 36,000-square-foot retail building.
Sephora is slated to open at 11922 Grand Commons Avenue next year, while Nando's Peri-Peri plans to open soon, with dine-in, takeout and delivery. Meanwhile, IKEA's smaller-format Fairfax Corner plan and order point is set to close on November 30, following the opening of the retailer's larger 107,000-square-foot store in Chantilly in June, which displays more than 7,700 items with 4,400 available for immediate purchase.
How Joybird Compares to Other New Showrooms
Joybird isn't the only customizable furniture brand expanding its Northern Virginia footprint this year. Lovesac opened a 1,524-square-foot showroom at Stonebridge at Potomac Town Center in Woodbridge on August 7, where shoppers can see the company's Sactionals, Sacs and StealthTech immersive sound system, according to Furniture Today.
Joybird, which is a subsidiary of La-Z-Boy Incorporated, is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The Fairfax debut follows other recent tenant turnover at the center, including Ruthie's All-Day, which opened at Fairfax Corner in mid-April.
