A noodle shop is moving into a building that used to count cash instead of serving broth. Joyce Taste Noodle Shop is expected to open at 130 Schwenk Drive in Kingston, taking over the site of the former Rondout Savings Bank branch, according to 94.3 Lite FM.
The building itself has a straightforward backstory. Property records describe 130 Schwenk Drive as a roughly 1,989-square-foot brick-and-frame structure built in 1980 and originally set up as a bank, according to a Howard Hanna property listing. The site carries Central Commercial (C-2) zoning and still has the hallmarks of its banking days, including two drive-up lanes and about 15 parking spaces, per the same listing. Records show the property last sold for $685,000.
A Former Bank With a Layered History
The Schwenk Drive address has worn more than one hat over the years. Before it became a bank, the broader facility had served as an insurance company and, later, a restaurant, according to a 2021 report from Hudson Valley One. That same reporting detailed how Rondout Savings Bank had purchased the neighboring Spectrum building at 142 Schwenk Drive with plans to expand into an Uptown campus that would include the adjoining branch at 130 Schwenk Drive.
At the time, bank leaders said they intended to update the Spectrum building's facade and also expected to renovate the adjoining branch, the outlet reported.
What's Known About the Noodle Shop So Far
Per 94.3 Lite FM's reporting, Joyce Taste Noodle Shop is currently renovating the premises as it prepares to move in. Beyond the location itself and the renovation work underway, specifics such as a firm opening date, menu, hours or ownership details have not been independently confirmed.
The new shop would add one more entry to a stretch of Kingston that has seen steady commercial turnover. Separately, Ulster County has seen several other new businesses open recently, including Lucky Horseshoe Wine & Liquors at 591 State Route 44/55 in Highland and sister eateries Yoyo Chicken and Soho Eatery HV, which sit next to each other at 1304 Ulster Avenue in Kingston, according to 94.3 Lite FM. The outlet also reported that Royal Properties Inc. shared plans for an O'Reilly Auto Parts to open at the former Rite Aid at 351 Flatbush Avenue in Kingston.
Whether the Joyce Taste opening fits into any broader local dining trend remains uncertain, though at least one regional food outlet has pointed to growing interest in new concepts popping up around Ulster County, including a farm-to-table Nordic restaurant that Hudson Valley Magazine described as drawing enthusiastic response from local foodies. For now, the clearest facts remain tied to the building itself: a decades-old bank branch on Schwenk Drive, once home to an insurance office and a restaurant before that, now being reworked for its next chapter as a noodle shop.
