A fire tore through the first floor of a four-unit apartment building on Kenmore Avenue in Buffalo on Tuesday afternoon, injuring three people including a child and a police officer. The flames were confined to the area where they started, but not before an adult and a child were hurt escaping the building.
Fire crews responded to 1798 Kenmore Avenue around 1:43 p.m., according to WIVB. The building is described as a two-and-a-half-story, four-unit residential structure, and the fire began on the first floor before being contained to that area, the station reported.
Adult and Child Hurt Escaping the Blaze
Two people self-evacuated the building during the fire, and both were injured in the process. One adult suffered smoke inhalation and burns, while a child sustained a leg injury, per the same account from WIVB. A police officer who responded to the scene also sustained a finger injury during the incident.
The WGRZ reported on the fire the same day, noting that a father and child were involved in the incident. The American Red Cross was requested to assist the adult and child who were displaced from the building, the station's report added.
Cause Still Under Investigation
Officials have not yet determined what sparked the fire. The cause remains under investigation, according to the initial report, and no additional details about the origin or circumstances have been released.
