Kent State University's College of the Arts is throwing open its doors Wednesday, Oct. 14, for a free, daylong symposium called Art Without Limits, running from 9 a.m. to 4:50 p.m. at the University Auditorium inside Cartwright Hall. The event mixes big-name alumni, Northeast Ohio business founders and a splash of student cash prizes, all built around a single idea: teaching creative majors how to turn their art into a living.

As reported by Cleveland.com, the event is open not just to Kent State students, faculty, staff and alumni but to the public across the region, and it will feature presentations spanning art, music, fashion, theatre, dance, animation and game design, visual communication design, and marketing and branding. The symposium is presented in partnership with the John S. and Marlene J. Brinzo Center for Entrepreneurship and the Arts Entrepreneurship Podcast: Making Art Work, according to the same report.

One of the day's most concrete payoffs comes between 1 p.m. and 1:05 p.m., when organizers will announce the winners of the 2026 ArtsLAUNCH! Grant Competition live; the $500 stipends for Kent State students building new creative works or arts-based business ventures will be processed following the announcement, according to Kent State University College of the Arts. That competition is co-sponsored by LaunchNET Kent State and the Brinzo Center.

Scale and Growth of the Symposium

Art Without Limits isn't a one-off. The event has been hosted annually on campus since at least 2024. Organizers are aiming higher this time, setting a goal of 1,500 participants for the 2026 program, the podcast reports.

The Arts Entrepreneurship Podcast: Making Art Work, a co-sponsor of the event, has more than 200 episodes.

Featured Speakers

The lineup includes designer and illustrator Mikey Burton.

Featured speaker Aveena Sawyer is a performer and arts educator.

Local Business Founders Round Out the Bill

Several speakers bring Northeast Ohio's commercial design world directly into the auditorium. Michael Caparanis, founder and CEO of Cleveland marketing agency JAC Creative, is among them, per Kent State University College of the Arts.

Molly Fitzpatrick, founder of DITTOHOUSE, is among the speakers, according to a Kent State Arts Facebook post. Per Cleveland.com, the day's additional speakers include costume designer and celebrity stylist Lisa Smedley-Calderon, graphic designer and Reference founder Christian Woltman, and pianist and chamber musician Giuseppe Guarrera.

Guarrera, an Italian pianist who earned a medal at the 2024 Cleveland International Piano Competition, will open the Glauser School of Music's 2026-2027 Kent Keyboard Series with a concert Oct. 16, presented in collaboration with Piano Cleveland, according to the Kent State University School of Music.

High Schoolers and State Disclosure Rules

The 2026 program also builds in a full-day high school track spanning eight creative disciplines, giving younger students in the region a direct look at the same industry pipeline, according to Kent State University College of the Arts. The university notes the event complies with Ohio Senate Bill 1 by publishing financial disclosures for invited speakers who receive fees exceeding $500, a regulation that mandates specific disclosure requirements for public universities.

The day wraps with a panel discussion featuring all of the guest speakers together, followed by a networking reception, per Cleveland.com. More information on the free event is available at kent.edu/artscollege/art-without-limits-2026.
