Kingspan Insulated Panels North America has finished retrofitting and expanding its DeLand headquarters into a 29,000-square-foot facility, adding new offices, shared workstations and a client experience area to the Central Florida campus it has called home for over a decade. The project leaned heavily on sustainability goals, from construction waste diversion to an all-electric design, as the manufacturer reshapes its North American base of operations.

According to Kingspan, the company described the project as the completion of its newly retrofitted and expanded headquarters in DeLand. The facility now includes an all-electric design with no natural gas systems, along with 12 electric-vehicle charging stations, the company says. As reported by The Business Journals, the expansion gives Kingspan additional employee space as it grows its North American operations out of DeLand.

The scope of the physical build-out was substantial. Builders installed more than 21,000 square feet of insulated metal wall panels and 30,000 square feet of insulated metal roof panels as part of the retrofit, per usglassmag.com. That trade publication also notes the project added new office areas, break rooms, shared workstations and an updated client experiential space.

Sustainability Metrics Drive the Retrofit

Rather than tear down the existing structure, Kingspan chose to retain much of it, a decision that paid off environmentally. The company reduced the project’s embodied carbon by 60% compared with demolishing and rebuilding the facility, according to roofingcontractor.com. Approximately 99% of construction waste was diverted from landfills through recycling, reuse or donation, the same outlet reports.

The headquarters also incorporates rainwater-harvesting tanks for non-potable applications, according to concreteproducts.com. Kingspan is targeting LEED v4 BD+C Gold Certification and the International Living Future Institute’s Net Zero Carbon + Energy Certification for the building, per roofingcontractor.com’s reporting on the sustainability push.

A Headquarters More Than a Decade in the Making

DeLand’s role as Kingspan’s North American hub dates back to 2013, when Kingspan Group PLC officially designated its manufacturing plant there as the North American headquarters for its insulated panels division, according to news-journalonline.com. That outlet reported at the time that Kingspan had committed to invest $2.3 million in capital improvements at the plant and planned to add at least 30 jobs over three years. Florida Trend, however, described the same era of investment differently, reporting a $2.5 million capital investment tied to retaining 50 jobs and adding 30 more. The two accounts diverge on the exact dollar figure and job commitments, and neither has been reconciled in current reporting.

The Business Journals, in its coverage of the newly completed expansion, framed it as part of how Kingspan continues to grow its North American operations from its DeLand base. The company has not disclosed current staffing levels or new hiring tied to this latest project.

Part of a Broader Expansion Pattern

The DeLand overhaul isn’t Kingspan’s only recent North American move. The company also announced the grand opening of a new manufacturing facility in Mattoon, Illinois, expanding its insulated panels operations beyond Florida, according to Kingspan US. Together, the DeLand retrofit and the Mattoon opening point to a company investing in both its headquarters footprint and its manufacturing capacity across the country.
