A 20-year-old Kingston man is sitting in Dutchess County Jail without bail after investigators examined a July shooting on Boulevard Knolls in Poughkeepsie, where they found shell casings and bullet holes in two cars and a residence. Jamori Douglas was arrested on Friday, October 2, in connection with the shooting, and he was arraigned in Dutchess County Court on Monday, where a judge ordered him held without bail.
According to Daily Voice, the Poughkeepsie Police Department announced the arrest after detectives spent nearly three months piecing together the case. The shooting happened on July 8, when authorities received a report of multiple gunshots and a possible person struck by gunfire, prompting officers to search the area and local hospitals for a victim. None was found, but police recovered 15 9mm shell casings at the scene, along with evidence that bullets had struck two vehicles and a residence.
Douglas now faces two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a charge classified as an armed violent felony.
Investigators Followed Up on a Suspect Vehicle
Investigators identified a suspect vehicle and issued a BOLO, which led Kingston police to locate and impound it, as reported by Daily Voice. Douglas is a Kingston resident.
Douglas's eventual arrest drew on resources beyond city police. The FBI Hudson Valley Safe Streets Task Force and URGENT both assisted Poughkeepsie detectives in locating him, per Daily Voice.
Court records reviewed through Dutchess County's online docket system show Douglas was no stranger to local law enforcement before the July shooting. He was arrested on Salt Point Turnpike in Poughkeepsie on May 21 on charges including second-degree and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, and third-degree criminal possession of cannabis, according to the Dutchess County District Attorney's Office.
A Housing Complex With a Troubled History
A Previous Arrest at Boulevard Knolls Boulevard Knolls, where the July shooting unfolded, was also the site of a May 2022 traffic stop that led police to recover a loaded handgun and arrest a suspect wanted on a Dutchess County warrant for second-degree attempted murder, according to the Hudson Valley Post.
The July incident also fits a broader pattern Poughkeepsie has grappled with this year. In September, police responded to a separate, still-unsolved shooting that struck an occupied home near Edgar Street and a local preschool, recovering numerous shell casings but naming no suspect, as Hoodline previously reported. In a separate shots-fired case, police arrested 20-year-old Amir Thigpen and recovered a loaded .45-caliber handgun, according to Hoodline.
For now, the investigation into the July 8 shooting remains active, and police say they are still seeking information from the public. Anyone with details is asked to call the Poughkeepsie Police Department's tip line at 845-451-7577; tips can be submitted anonymously.
