Mi Tierra Pupuseria & Bakery, the Salvadoran kitchen that has been serving up pupusas and baked goods out of Kissimmee, is expanding to a second location on Lake Underhill Road in Orlando. The new spot will include a bar and dining area, a step up from the current setup at the original restaurant.
The original Mi Tierra Pupuseria & Bakery sits at 808 E Vine St. in Kissimmee, where it serves traditional recipes rooted in Central American cooking, according to the restaurant's own description. As reported by WhatNow, the new Orlando outpost is planned for 7343 Lake Underhill Road, joining a retail center that already houses Las Cazuelas Mexican Restaurant and Zorba's Greek Kitchen.
Co-owner Mario told the outlet that the Lake Underhill location will use the same pupusas, seasonings, and flavors that have made the Kissimmee restaurant a draw for fans of Salvadoran food. The new space is also described as more open than the existing restaurant, giving the business room for the planned bar and dining area. No opening date has been announced for the second location, per the same report.
What's On the Menu
At the Kissimmee location, Mi Tierra Pupuseria describes its food as offering traditional flavor and high-quality cuisine, just like the one made in El Salvador. The menu centers on pupusas, the thick corn tortillas stuffed with savory fillings and typically served with curtido, a spicy cabbage slaw. Beyond the pupusas, the restaurant also serves breakfast, lunch, and a lineup of Salvadoran baked goods, pastries, and desserts.
A Complicated Address
The Lake Underhill address the new restaurant is set to occupy carries some history. Orlando Weekly reported in December 2023 that officials shut down a restaurant called PR House at 7343 Lake Underhill Road, alleging it had operated as a cocaine-trafficking operation. According to that report, officials arrested the restaurant's owner and 17 others associated with what authorities called the criminal enterprise, and seized more than nine kilograms of cocaine along with 13 firearms from the property.
It is not established whether Mi Tierra's planned location will occupy the same suite as PR House or whether the property has since changed tenants entirely. What is clear is that the stretch of Lake Underhill Road has since become home to a small cluster of restaurants, with Zorba's Greek Kitchen drawing its own attention from local reviewers for its Mediterranean fare, as noted by the Orlando Sentinel.
For now, Salvadoran food fans in Orlando will have to wait for more details on when Mi Tierra Pupuseria & Bakery's second location officially opens its doors.
