A food delivery driver was assaulted and robbed at knifepoint while making a delivery on the 7100 block of Talisman Lane in Columbia on Wednesday night, with the attack unfolding near two schools in a residential neighborhood. Howard County Police say no injuries were reported.
According to FOX45 News, the driver told authorities that two males approached him while he was delivering food on Wednesday. The pair assaulted him, displayed a knife, and stole food from him before fleeing the scene, police said. As of Thursday, Howard County Police did not yet have a description of the suspects, the station reported.
A Neighborhood Built Around Family Life
The robbery occurred near Lake Elkhorn Middle School and Cradlerock Elementary School, according to the same report. The 7100 block of Talisman Lane sits within the Dasher Green neighborhood in the Village of Owen Brown, one of Columbia's ten master-planned residential villages established in the 1970s.
The attack adds to a string of recent incidents on the same stretch of road. In August, Howard County Police documented an overnight vehicle break-in and airbag theft in the 7200 block of Talisman Lane, according to the Howard County Government newsroom. Two days before the delivery driver was robbed, county police also investigated a separate robbery in nearby Elkridge, where a suspect stole a mobile phone from a victim on Washington Boulevard; no injuries were reported in that case either, per the same source.
What Maryland Law Says About the Charges Suspects Could Face
If identified and apprehended, the suspects could face serious legal exposure under Maryland law. Robbery or attempted robbery committed with a dangerous weapon such as a knife is classified as felony armed robbery, carrying a maximum penalty of up to 20 years in prison, per Maryland Code Criminal Law § 3-403. Even without a weapon, standard robbery is still a felony under state law, carrying a maximum sentence of up to 15 years, according to the Maryland code as outlined by Houlon Berman. Armed robbery charges apply in Maryland regardless of whether the victim sustained physical injury.
Part of a Broader Regional Pattern Targeting Delivery Workers
The Talisman Lane robbery reflects a pattern seen elsewhere in central Maryland this year. In Anne Arundel County, police investigated a similar late-night robbery on August 5 in which three teenage suspects brandished a firearm and attempted to steal food from a pizza delivery driver in Severn. In April, a food delivery driver was violently assaulted during an attempted armed robbery on Norfolk Avenue in West Forest Park on a Saturday morning.
Countywide, Howard County's overall picture looks different. The Howard County Executive's 2025 annual report found that incidents of robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, and motor vehicle theft all decreased year-over-year across the county. Still, individual incidents like the one on Talisman Lane show that gig and delivery drivers can face elevated risks when dispatched to unfamiliar residential streets, even in communities with declining overall crime numbers.
Howard County Police issue Daily Crime Bulletins each weekday to inform the public of initial reports on robberies, assaults, burglaries, and vehicle thefts, and the Talisman Lane case is expected to move through that same reporting pipeline as the investigation continues. For now, investigators have not released a suspect description, leaving Owen Brown residents and delivery workers alike watching for updates.
