A coffee shop that spent eight years pouring lattes along A1A in Flagler Beach has set up shop in Palm Coast. Kool Beenz Coffee held its grand opening at City Marketplace on Oct. 17, welcoming customers from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. with specials, door prizes, drawings and an introduction to its new menu.
The new location sits at 160 Cypress Point Parkway, Suite A202, according to Observer Local News. Owners Tim and Jody Bulischuck had operated the business at its A1A spot for eight years before the move, searching for a new home as their lease neared its end. The couple told the outlet they specifically wanted a plaza surrounded by other businesses, hoping the foot traffic would help them reach more potential customers.
From Pittsburgh Transplants to Flagler Beach Fixtures
The same report says Tim and Jody Bulischuck had lived in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and wanted to leave Pennsylvania winters. In 2017, they opened their first coffee shop in Flagler Beach near the post office, chasing a dream Tim described as wanting to own his own business and work for himself. About a year and a half after that opening, they relocated to the A1A spot near the ocean, where they stayed for the next eight years.
Earlier coverage from news-journalonline.com documented that first Flagler Beach shop opening on South Third Street roughly three months before that 2017 story ran. The business's footprint has shifted more than once over the years; a 2018 item from Observer Local News noted the shop had also operated at 220 S. Daytona Ave. before settling at 1842 S. Ocean Shore Blvd.
Coffee, Smoothies and a Free Book Exchange
At the new Palm Coast location, Kool Beenz serves specialty coffees, smoothies, scones and Danish pastries, the pastries supplied by Small Batches. One signature drink blends coffee with vanilla ice cream, while the shop also uses coffee ice cubes in its iced coffee so the drink does not get watered down, a touch highlighted previously by palmcoastford.com.
Jody Bulischuck told Observer Local News that the smoothies and smoothie bowls are made with frozen fruit blended with juice or milk, often almond or coconut milk, and she emphasized that the shop relies on fresh fruit rather than powder or paste.
More Than a Coffee Counter
Beyond drinks and pastries, the shop doubles as a small marketplace and gathering spot. Customers can browse a free book exchange or shop paintings, jewelry, die-cast cars and other items for sale, including artwork Tim Bulischuck creates himself and jewelry Jody Bulischuck makes by hand.
Kool Beenz Coffee is now open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday at its City Marketplace location in Palm Coast.
