A bouncer working security at Kulture nightclub was stabbed in the abdomen early Monday morning in Providence. Officers found the man near Friendship and Richmond streets around 2:45 a.m. with a stab wound, and he told police he had been attacked in a stairwell just outside the club.

The victim was identified as a bouncer at Kulture, according to GoLocalProv, which reported he was stabbed around 2:30 a.m. and taken by EMTs to Rhode Island Hospital. Police, as reported by WJAR, said officers could not locate an exact crime scene despite the man's account of being stabbed in the stairwell. Rhode Island Hospital, where he was taken, houses New England's only accredited adult and pediatric Level 1 trauma and burn center, a detail Hoodline has previously detailed in its coverage of the facility.

Inside the club, officers also reported a broader disturbance involving multiple fights, per the station's report. They documented evidence of pepper spray and blood inside Kulture, though it remains unclear exactly how that evidence lines up with the stabbing victim's own account of where he was attacked.

It is not the first time Kulture has drawn police attention. In April 2022, Providence police arrested two men who were charged with resisting arrest and seized two loaded Glocks outside the club during a concert featuring New York rapper B-Lovee, according to GoLocalProv.

Another Club Stabbing In Weeks

The stabbing lands less than a month after a fatal stabbing outside Mezzo Lounge in Providence killed 18-year-old Marvins Antoine, a UMass Dartmouth football player, during an early morning dispute on September 19; his 19-year-old teammate was injured but survived, as reported by WPRI 12. Hoodline previously reported on that fatal stabbing. That case led the Providence Board of Licenses to impose a mandatory one-month closure on Mezzo Lounge and permanently ban 18-and-older event nights there, according to Providence Business News.

The Providence Board of Licenses handles licensing for liquor and entertainment venues. Whether the board will take action against Kulture has not been announced.

Who Runs Kulture

Kulture is at 71 Richmond Street in Downtown Providence.

Providence's nightlife involves both public-safety concerns and economic activity.

Investigators have not said how the pepper spray and blood found inside the club relate to the stairwell attack the victim described. The case follows a separate stabbing earlier this month at a Stewart Street apartment, which Hoodline also covered in a recent report.
