Lake Mirror turns into a candy trail Monday evening as Lakeland Police and Fire departments host their annual Truck or Treat from 5 to 8 p.m. along the lake's north and east bank and at adjacent Fire Station 1. The free event is open to everyone, though it's aimed squarely at kids 12 and under, who can expect costumed officers, firefighters, and more than 15 stops stacked with candy and safety giveaways.
According to lakelandgazette.info, the event is open to everyone but is targeted to children ages 12 and under, and organizers are encouraging costumes for the occasion. Families attending can meet Lakeland firefighters and police officers, trick-or-treat at different fire apparatus and police vehicles, and learn about how to stay healthy and safe at stops scattered around the lake, per the same outlet. Admission is free, according to lakelandmom.com.
With more than 15 display and treat stops planned, the gazette's report notes that children can collect candy, Halloween goodies, and safety giveaways throughout the evening — though everything is handed out first come, first served while supplies last. That first-come setup means families hoping to hit every stop may want to arrive early, since the gazette's report does not indicate restocking during the three-hour window.
What's Rolling Up at Lake Mirror

An event map shared in a LakelandPD Facebook post lists some of the heavier hardware on display, including Tower 15, a 100-foot ladder truck, and an aircraft rescue and firefighting truck. The lineup also includes a mine-resistant ambush-protected vehicle and a BearCat armored vehicle, alongside Leapin' Lena, a historic fire truck that's become something of a fixture at the lakeside event.
The same police department's poster advertises free candy, giveaways, and a photo area, plus a prize for the best first-responder costume. It identifies Lakeland Police Department and Lakeland Fire Department as the event hosts, who've put together more than 20 numbered stops on the map, mixing public-safety units like a DUI unit and crime-prevention display with community partners offering everything from free pumpkin seedlings to dental health information for kids.
Road Closure To Know Before Heading Out
Drivers should plan around a stretch of East Main Street that will shut down for the evening. The gazette's report specifies that East Main Street, from east of the train station entrance to Rose Street, will be closed from 3 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Monday — a six-hour window bracketing the three-hour event to allow for setup and teardown. The train station itself will remain open throughout the closure, per the same report.
The Lake Mirror gathering has become a fall tradition in Lakeland. More than a thousand people lined the shores of Lake Mirror for the city's 2023 Public Safety Trunk or Treat, according to lkldnow.com. The event has kept a consistent format in recent years — last year's version, reported by Daily Ridge, ran the same 5-to-8 p.m. schedule at the same Lake Mirror and Fire Station 1 location, as did the 2024 edition the outlet covered the year before.
