A family in LaRue County, Kentucky has filed a lawsuit alleging that a 7-year-old boy with autism was sexually and physically assaulted by an older student on a school bus, and that five school district employees failed to stop it. The suit, filed in LaRue Circuit Court, names a bus monitor and bus driver among those accused of letting the abuse happen under their watch.
According to shayinformed.com, the lawsuit directly accuses the bus monitor and driver of turning a blind eye to the abuse on what the suit describes as a special needs bus. The complaint goes further, alleging that every adult responsible for supervising the boy that day did nothing to intervene as the assaults occurred. The alleged assaults took place in early 2026, per the lawsuit, which was brought against five LaRue County school district employees, according to The Courier-Journal.
LaRue County Schools is led by Superintendent Adryanne Warren, who is included among the five employees named in the lawsuit, per the same reporting. The complaint centers on an allegation of institutional failure: that a child with autism, placed in the care of school staff on a school bus, was instead left vulnerable to repeated harm during the ride.
A Pattern Playing Out Elsewhere in Kentucky
This is not the only Kentucky school bus lawsuit of its kind this year. A separate case out of Trigg County alleges that a 6-year-old student at Trigg County Primary School was repeatedly sexually abused by an older student on a school bus during the 2025-26 school year, according to WSMV.
That lawsuit names Trigg County Public Schools Superintendent Rex Booth, Bus Garage Director Scott Schrock and bus driver Holly Schafer as defendants, the station reports. It alleges that school officials failed to keep the child separated from substantially older students even after concerns were raised about the bus seating arrangement, and it seeks compensatory and punitive damages. Cadiz Police reviewed bus surveillance footage after the alleged abuse was reported on May 19, and that criminal investigation remains ongoing, per WSMV.
What Remains Unknown in the LaRue County Case
Much about the LaRue County filing has not been made public. The case number, the exact filing date and the identities of the five employees named as defendants have not been disclosed in available reporting. It is also unclear whether criminal charges or a police investigation have followed the allegations, and no response has yet been issued by the LaRue County school district, Superintendent Warren, the named employees or their attorneys.
The case centers on a young boy with autism who was allegedly assaulted on a school bus, and a family now seeking accountability from the adults they say were supposed to be watching.
