A Nevada man convicted of possessing material depicting sexual conduct of a child is back behind bars in Las Vegas after spending more than four years as a fugitive, according to state authorities. Michael Patrick Sullivan absconded from supervision in January 2022, and he was finally tracked down in Biloxi, Mississippi, earlier this month.
Sullivan had been serving probation on a suspended prison sentence of 28 months to six years when he cut off contact with Nevada authorities, as reported by News 3 Las Vegas. Nevada State Police said a bench warrant was issued for his arrest once he dropped off supervision. In October 2021, a judge had sentenced Sullivan to 28 to 72 suspended months in prison with probation not to exceed five years, according to 8 News Now.
A Four-Year Manhunt Ends on the Gulf Coast
Nevada State Police said a joint fugitive investigation with the Nevada Division of Parole and Probation and the U.S. Marshals Service ultimately located Sullivan in Biloxi on Oct. 7. The station's report notes that the investigation spanned state and federal agencies working together to close in on him. 8 News Now separately reported that Sullivan was arrested in Biloxi that same day by the U.S. Marshals Service Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force.
Once he was taken into custody on the Gulf Coast, authorities brought Sullivan back to Nevada. He was booked into the Clark County Detention Center on Friday, Oct. 23, and he remains held at the county jail, per the same account.
Years of Absconding Before Capture
Sullivan's disappearance from Nevada's supervision system stretched on for roughly four years and nine months before his capture, according to state authorities. The case closes a chapter that began with his conviction, followed by his sentencing in October 2021 and his decision to abscond just months into his probation term in January 2022.
