A Clark County School District special education transportation aide was arrested Tuesday on charges of child abuse or neglect and endangerment, following a police investigation that began earlier this month. Carmen Morris, 42, was booked into the Clark County Detention Center after the arrest, and she is set to appear in court next Monday.
CCSD police arrested Morris on Oct. 20 on a charge of child abuse and neglect and endangerment, according to 8 News Now. The outlet reports that Morris was last assigned as a special education transportation aide within the district, a role that put her in direct contact with some of the district's most vulnerable students.
The investigation that led to her arrest began earlier in October, according to the same report. KTNV similarly reported that Morris was arrested Tuesday and booked into the Clark County Detention Center following an investigation that began this month, though neither outlet has detailed the specific allegations, the circumstances of the probe, or the identity of any child involved.
A Longtime District Employee
Morris has worked for CCSD since February 2013, meaning she had been with the district for roughly 13 years at the time of her arrest. She faces a charge of child abuse or neglect and endangerment, per the CCSD Police Department's account relayed through the same report.
Under the district's negotiated agreement with its bargaining unit, Morris will be assigned to home without pay, CCSD said, according to the station's report. No further disciplinary details beyond that assignment have been disclosed.
Court Date Set for Next Week
Morris is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 26, per the same account. It remains unclear whether she has entered a plea or retained an attorney, and no statement from Morris or her legal representation has been made public.
FOX5 Las Vegas also confirmed the arrest and the charges in its own coverage, noting Morris's long tenure with the district and her most recent assignment in special education transportation. The case remains under investigation, and no additional details about the allegations have been released by authorities.
