A 44-year-old man was left seriously injured in a violent home invasion robbery in Lenwood. San Bernardino County Sheriff's deputies responded, and both accused attackers were later arrested.
According to Victor Valley News Group, deputies identified two suspects in connection with the attack, and both were arrested.
The Second Arrest
Detectives recovered a portion of the stolen money at the time of Perez's arrest.
What the Charges Could Mean
Under California Penal Code § 212.5, a robbery committed inside an inhabited structure carries a maximum state prison sentence of nine years, according to Eisner Gorin LLP. First-degree residential robbery is also classified as a violent strike under California's Three Strikes law, according to the firm.
The reported use of a crowbar and knife during the attack could also factor into sentencing. Penal Code § 12022(b) mandates an additional, consecutive one-year enhancement for using a deadly or dangerous weapon during a felony, per Shouse Law Group. Separately, inflicting great bodily injury during a felony carries a mandatory consecutive enhancement of six additional years under Penal Code § 12022.7, Eisner Gorin LLP notes.
A Vast Patrol Territory
Lenwood is patrolled by deputies assigned to the Barstow Sheriff's Station, which covers more than 9,200 square miles — the largest geographic patrol jurisdiction in San Bernardino County, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department. That sprawling territory means Barstow Station deputies regularly coordinate with allied state and municipal law enforcement agencies.
It is not the first violent incident reported along this stretch of the High Desert this year. Hoodline reported that two teens were arrested for an elder robbery near Barstow in the 2800 block of Lenwood Road about 10 days before its September 8 publication. A train burglary occurred days after the robbery; the gang-related shooting mentioned in the article happened on August 6, before the elder robbery.
