Lewisville Police SWAT teams converged on a residence early Wednesday morning after officers say a man shot a woman and then holed up inside a home roughly a mile from the scene of the shooting. The woman was taken to a local hospital for treatment, and police asked residents to stay clear of the area while they worked to resolve the standoff.
According to CBS News Texas, the shooting happened along the 100 block of Eastwood Place, and the man barricaded himself inside a residence in the 200 block of Ridgeway Circle, about a mile east of where the woman was shot. Police said the two were in a domestic relationship, though investigators have not released the identities of either person involved or detailed the severity of the woman's injuries.
As FOX 4 reported, Lewisville Police SWAT was on the scene working to bring the situation to a safe end, with officers asking the public to avoid the area so the team could operate without interference. No information on the suspect's custody status, potential charges, or a motive for the shooting has been released.
A Pattern of Tense Standoffs in Lewisville
Wednesday's incident is not the first time Lewisville police have faced a barricade situation tied to a domestic shooting. In a separate standoff at a Budget Suites hotel, officers eventually got a man to surrender without incident by around 8 a.m., according to the same CBS News Texas report. In that case, a woman was found dead inside the man's room with a gunshot wound, and police said it was unclear whether his own injuries were self-inflicted or caused by officers.
Another earlier shooting in Lewisville, this one at a mobile home park, also ended in tragedy. Police said a woman was pronounced dead at the scene while a man was taken to a nearby hospital with critical injuries, per a report from FOX4News. The dossier evidence does not establish whether these earlier cases occurred before or after Wednesday's shooting on Eastwood Place.
For now, the situation on Ridgeway Circle remains fluid, with police continuing efforts to resolve the barricade safely. No further details on the man's status or any charges have been made public as of Wednesday morning.
