Flames broke out near Golf Links Road and Chabroullian Lane in Tuolumne County around 1:30 p.m. Sunday, prompting the Tuolumne County Sheriff's Office to order an immediate evacuation of the Twin Pines Mobile Home Park as the blaze, dubbed the Links Fire, burned nearby.
The Tuolumne County Sheriff's Office issued the mandatory evacuation order just before 2 p.m., directing Twin Pines residents to leave and asking residents to avoid the area, according to CBS Sacramento. Cal Fire reported the blaze had burned about 2 acres as of 2:45 p.m. Sunday. Twin Pines Mobile Home Park is at 10760 Wigwam Road.
Air Tankers Catch the Fire Early
Firefighters managed to hold the Links Fire at roughly 2 acres within established retardant lines shortly after it ignited, and crews requested an additional bulldozer and hand crew to help battle the flames, ABC10 reported.
A Corridor With a Long Fire History
The Golf Links Road and Highway 108 corridor west of Sonora has repeatedly drawn fire crews back to the same stretch of foothills. In 2021, the Washington Fire burned more than 100 acres along the Highway 108 corridor, causing structural damage and evacuations, as reported by Hoodline.
The Links Fire also follows closely on the heels of the Dove Fire arson case, a 223-acre blaze that tore through the Sonora and Jamestown foothills in July, damaging or destroying 14 structures, injuring two wildland firefighters, and forcing evacuations for more than 600 homes, as Hoodline previously reported. CAL FIRE law enforcement later arrested a suspect on felony arson charges in that case.
As of Sunday afternoon, the Links Fire remained active near Twin Pines Mobile Home Park, with crews working to reinforce containment lines. The mandatory evacuation order was downgraded to a warning around 2:40 p.m., and all orders and warnings were rescinded around 4:40 p.m.
