A 42-year-old Little Rock man has been sentenced to 210 months — more than 17 years — in federal prison in a case involving a livestream of him firing a handgun. Tashun Yancy was already out on bond facing a pending capital-murder charge and three other felony cases when the video surfaced.
According to THV11, Little Rock police discovered in April 2025 that Yancy had been seen shooting a black-and-gold Canik 9mm pistol on a social-media livestream. Yancy's prior felony convictions meant possessing any firearm was already illegal for him.
Detectives obtained a search warrant for Yancy's home in June 2025 and recovered the same firearm shown in the livestream along with 17 rounds of ammunition, the station's report states. Yancy later confessed that the gun in his possession was the one seen in the video and admitted he knew he could not legally possess a firearm as a convicted felon. He reportedly told investigators he had been shooting on land owned by his roommates' family.
A Record Stretching Back Years
Authorities described Yancy as a multi-convicted felon and career criminal, pointing to a criminal history that includes commercial burglary, theft of property, possession and distribution of cocaine, and robbery.
A federal grand jury indicted Yancy on a one-count charge of being a felon in possession of a firearm in October 2025. He pleaded guilty to that charge in June, and on Thursday, October 29, 2026, he was sentenced to 210 months in prison, to be followed by five years of supervised release.
How the Sentence Compares
Federal law under 18 U.S.C. § 924(e)(1), as published by the Office of the Law Revision Counsel, sets a mandatory minimum of not less than 15 years in prison for certain armed-career-criminal firearm offenses, though the statutory excerpt alone does not establish which conditions applied in Yancy's case. Other felon-in-possession cases out of the Eastern District of Arkansas have drawn a range of sentences; the U.S. Department of Justice's Eastern District of Arkansas office has announced a 140-month sentence for a repeat felon-in-possession offender and a separate 180-month sentence for another multi-convicted felon, while a different case in that district resulted in a 17-year federal sentence.
Nationally, sentencing for felon-in-possession convictions under 18 U.S.C. § 922(g) varies considerably. The U.S. Sentencing Commission reports that 40% of sentences for such convictions involved variances from guideline ranges. For cases with downward variances, average sentence reductions were 35%; for cases with upward variances, average increases were 57%.
