Luna Grill Mediterranean is setting its sights on McKinney, with plans for a new restaurant at 160 S. Custer Road, Suite 400. The fast-casual chain, known for grilled proteins, hummus and falafel, is targeting a construction completion date of May 2027 for the space, according to public filings.
The McKinney plans surfaced in reporting from What Now Dallas, which cited the targeted completion timeline for the Custer Road address. Separate filing details reported by Community Impact indicate the McKinney location is set to occupy a roughly 2,000-square-foot space, with renovation work expected to cost $400,000 and begin in January 2027 before wrapping in late May 2027, per a Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation filing.
What's On the Menu
Luna Grill's menu centers on fresh Mediterranean dishes, including chicken kabobs, falafel and pita wraps, alongside house-made hummus, shawarma, grain bowls and salads. The chain says its food is prepared without artificial ingredients or preservatives, a point the brand has leaned on as it builds out its Texas footprint. Founded in San Diego in 2004, per What Now Dallas, Luna Grill has grown well beyond its California roots.
The McKinney project would add to a list of Luna Grill locations already scattered across the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, including restaurants in Plano, Flower Mound, Richardson and Southlake. The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation database lists Project TABS2024004920 with a registration date of Nov. 7, 2023.
A Broader Push Across North Texas
McKinney is just one piece of a larger regional expansion. Luna Grill has said it plans to add five new restaurants across the Dallas-Fort Worth metro, building on what it describes as six existing locations in the region, including one in Mansfield, according to the company's own expansion announcement. The chain frames the growth as a response to rising demand for what it calls wholesome, clean food.
That expansion math has shifted depending on when it's measured. Luna Grill's own materials describe an earlier 2018 push that added five Dallas-Fort Worth restaurants to bring its total to eight, while the Lakewood/East Dallas Advocate reported the chain had eight locations in the Metroplex as of May 2026, and the chain's 60th kitchen opened in Old East Dallas. The varying counts reflect different points in the chain's ongoing buildout rather than a single fixed number.
More Locations in the Pipeline
McKinney isn't the only North Texas market where Luna Grill is making moves. The chain could also bring a location to Celina, at 3515 S. Preston Road, Suite 130, where public filings indicate a 2,183-square-foot space with construction scheduled for completion by the end of December 2026, per What Now Dallas. The same report notes a Forney outpost could be in development as well, alongside Luna Grill's existing Plano location on Preston Road.
No public opening date has been confirmed for the McKinney restaurant beyond the targeted construction-completion timeline. What Now Dallas reported the Custer Road address and construction target before Community Impact published its article.
