A new restaurant called Mallorca Mediterranean and American Cuisine is moving into the former Los Amigos space at 395 Central Avenue in Jersey City Heights, bringing a blend of Mediterranean and American dishes to a storefront long associated with tacos. The 1,500-square-foot location has recently undergone renovations, with an interior layout already set up for restaurant use.
According to Hoboken Girl, the incoming spot will serve Mediterranean and American food in the renovated space. The outlet reports that the address was formerly home to Los Amigos, a Mexican restaurant known for its tacos, before Mallorca's arrival.
Word of the new restaurant first circulated through a Jersey City Heights Facebook community group, where a post reported that Mallorca was taking over the space, per the group's listing cited in the same report. A soft opening for the restaurant is anticipated to take place in late October, according to destinationjerseycity.com.
A Neighborhood Known for Its Restaurant Row
Central Avenue has carved out a reputation as something of a dining destination within Jersey City, with the Central Avenue S.I.D. Management Corporation referring to the strip as Jersey City's restaurant row.
Just a few blocks away at 329 Central Avenue, Island Central opened in May 2025, an event that drew Mayor Steve Fulop and other dignitaries for a ribbon-cutting ceremony, Jersey Digs reported. The same month, the station's report on neighborhood openings noted five new businesses arriving in Jersey City Heights.
Other Mediterranean Restaurants in Jersey City
IKOS is a Greek and Mediterranean restaurant at 190 Steuben Street in Downtown Jersey City. Solaz, a Mediterranean restaurant and bar featuring golf simulator suites, also opened in Jersey City on November 24, 2025, per the publication's report.
Los Amigos had marketed itself on social media as serving authentic Mexican food and tacos from the 395 Central Avenue address, including delivery to Hoboken, according to its Instagram account. With Mallorca now moving into the renovated storefront, Jersey City Heights diners will soon have another option along the neighborhood's increasingly crowded restaurant row.
