A 34-year-old man trying to break up a group of people outside a Long Island City hotel and nightlife complex was slashed across the face with a sharp object early Saturday morning, and the attacker is still on the loose. The assault happened around 2:20 a.m. in front of 11-01 43rd Avenue, according to police, who say the unidentified suspect fled on foot immediately afterward.
NYPD Crime Stoppers shared details of the attack and a call for tips in a post on X, identifying the victim only by his age and describing the attacker as an unidentified male who displayed a sharp object before slashing the victim in the face, according to NYPD Crime Stoppers
. Investigators say the victim was attempting to disperse a group at the time of the attack, though what prompted that confrontation and whether the two men knew each other remain open questions.
The address where the slashing occurred is no quiet side street. The property houses hotel operations, along with The Newsroom cocktail bar, according to venue listings on Toast. The property last changed hands for $25.5 million in a November 2025 sale, according to Traded.
A Rooftop Party Was Scheduled for Later That Day
The timing of the attack coincided with a ticketed event listing at the building. Lost in Paradise Rooftop was scheduled to host a Reggaeton Paradise Rooftop Party from 11 p.m. on October 17 to 4 a.m., according to event listings on Tickeri. The listed 11 p.m. start was later that day than the 2:20 a.m. assault, so the listing does not place the party underway during the attack. It's not known whether the victim or the suspect had been inside the party, and police have not said whether surveillance cameras from the building captured the attacker's escape.
The venue's operating entity, 11-01 43rd Ave LLC, doing business as Lost in Paradise, appeared on the agenda for Queens Community Board No. 2's City Services & Public Safety Committee in June for a liquor license renewal review, per records from Community Board No. 2. That review predates Saturday's assault and does not establish any link between the liquor license and the attack.
Facing Years in Prison, If Caught
If investigators identify and arrest a suspect, the case could carry serious legal weight. Under New York Penal Law § 120.10, the applicable subsection sets specific requirements: the intent-and-weapon provision requires intent to cause serious physical injury, use of a deadly weapon or dangerous instrument, and actual serious physical injury; the disfigurement provision has separate intent and harm requirements, according to a breakdown from Lebedin Kofman LLP. The elements therefore depend on the specific statutory subsection at issue.
The attack falls within the jurisdiction of the NYPD's 108th Precinct, which covers Long Island City, Sunnyside, and Woodside. CompStat data also tracks figures for felony assaults and transit crimes, according to a summary from Abstract Enterprises.
Hoodline previously reported on a 62-year-old man beaten at the 46th Street station earlier this month, and on a murder indictment following an August stabbing in Long Island City.
How To Submit A Tip
NYPD Crime Stoppers is seeking information in the case. Tips can be submitted anonymously by calling 1-800-577-TIPS (8477), direct messaging @NYPDTips on social media, or using the dedicated Spanish-language hotline at 1-888-57-PISTA (74782), according to Hoodline's prior reporting on the department's tip channels. Crime Stoppers rewards are administered by the New York City Police Foundation, and payment requires a tip to lead to both an arrest and an indictment. In its October 20 post, NYPD Crime Stoppers described the attacker as wanted.
